6th Months Braces Update!

So Ive had my braces for a little over 6 months now and Ive noticed a lot of movement, especially in the bottom! Ive had 2 orthodonist appointments since my last post so I will fill you guys in on any changes/ movements.

My last appointment I had my bottom left spring removed, my bracket put back on, and my wire hooked up to the bracket. My bottom teeth were insanely sore for about a week but the movement and results were quick! That was one of my biggest problem teeth and it moved into position within 2 weeks! That was the most progress Ive seen yet and in such a short amount of time.

My most recent appointment (Friday July 26th) my ortho didnt do much. She made my top right active coil longer and tightened it slightly. I didnt get my normal 5-7 day soreness or tightness this time. I only felt slight discomfort for about 2 and a half days.

I still have an active spring on my top left tooth and one remaining spring on my bottom right side. I had 3 problem teeth that were crooked, twisted, and out of place and one of the three has been pulled into proper position and is perfectly straight. Only 2 more to go but we are still slowly making room to allow them to move into place (hence the two active springs). My top teeth (with the exception of one tooth) are completely straight. My top teeth werent insanely bad, but seeing how straight they are now compared to before, there is a huge difference! I already look back on pictures and notice a huge difference.

I also had two of my very back brackets pop off within 3 weeks of eachother. I wasnt eating anything unusual or that I wasnt supposed to eat, they just happen to pop off because they werent attatched to a wire which apparently is quite common. It wasnt a big deal and didnt cause me any discomfort, I just saved the brackets and when I need them hooked up to a wire they will be glued back on as normal.

Sores inside my mouth have been pretty non exsistant for the most part. Im noticing a little sore on my upper right lip right after my appointment so Im guessing there is slight movement going on and causing some friction.

Im extremely bad with flossing my teeth, even before I had braces I rarely flossed. Ive been recently forcing myself to floss daily and the bleeding I usually get from brushing has subsided a great deal as a result. I personally use a floss threader (looks like a teardrop with a point on it) and I tie a knot around the loop with floss. That is the only way Im aware of to floss with braces and I make sure I have it all ready to go the night before so that Im more inclined to do it every night. My orthodonist gets grumpy when she notices I havent been flossing so Im trying to do it every night and so far it has been a success!

Will update you guys if any more major changes happen!

General Update: First Mishap + Movement

So since my last appointment roughly 4 weeks ago, Ive had a wire on the top left side that is slightly too long and man is it shredding the inside of my cheek! I didnt really notice it until the 3rd or 4th day otherwise I obviously would have had my ortho clip it but it started to cut my mouth really bad for about 2 weeks and it slightly healed for a few days but now its sore again. I heard if I leave it too long it could cause an infection. I was trying to stick it out as my ortho is about 30 minutes away and I didnt want to drive that long for a 30 second appointment but its getting to the point where I may just go in early. My next appt was June 22nd and its the 12th today, hopefully  I can get in this Friday because talking and eating is driving me nuts! My mouth literally feels scarred!

As for movement, I've never really noticed much before, as the 3 bottom problem teeth still have springs so movement and straightening isnt even possible, but for the top 3 teeth that were slightly turned in and crooked, they seem to have moved and straightened almost completely! Its a relief seeing progress since most of my problem teeth still have springs and I still dont see changes even after 5 months. My ortho said almost all my teeth have made room so wires will be hooked up to the problem teeth very soon! That means a lot of pain and movement, but Im excited to see more results!

Month #4 Braces ...3rd Appointment Update

I had my third appointment today and it was the longest appointment I've had to date other then getting my braces put on.

Quick little update on my last ortho vist: I had 3 brackets removed from all my problem teeth to make for easier brushing. I had an active coil put in the top left tooth to make room as it is turned in slightly. My 3 crooked bottom teeth still have inactive coils but the wire is making room all on its own (we have to go slow with those teeth to avoid gum graphing). I had semi light wires in and havent started my rubber bands yet.

Today I had the last 4 brackets on my very back teeth put on and got a slightly stronger wire replaced and because the back brackets were placed on today, I had to top up my "stoppers" on my back teeth so I dont bite down on the new brackets. My appointment was approx one hour and has been by far the most painful. Every appointment Ive gone to I feel an imediate feeling of tightness when the wire is placed back on and it usually subsides a within about 30 minutes and there is a dull ache that day and the next day while eating but today has been extremely tight and uncomfortable for me. I started to notice a lot of pain about 3 hours after treatment and its slowly becoming worse and its almost impossible for me to eat. Using any sort of pressure to chew is pretty unbearable. Im used to this for about 2 days so I hope it doesnt last any longer then that. Im still getting used to the back brackets and my cheeks are taking a bit of a toll. I can see myself getting sores sometime this week from the friction of the brackets. Topping up the stoppers is always an annoyance because my back teeth dont touch together and the sensation of chewing food is thrown off a bit. Still no instruction to use my rubberbands yet.

Its day two and the pain is still really bad. A lot of pressure and tightness and I can BARELY chew anything and even brushing my teeth was extremely sore. Im going to take some advil and see if that helps. Will update on next appointment in 6 weeks.

One month braces & first appt!

So its been one full month and the worst part of having braces is over and done with! At this point, I dont even realize I have them anymore. Its a part of life to me now lol. I had my first wire change 2 days ago. It was super quick and simple. They checked out my mouth and popped the wire off and then let me brush and floss without the wire on. Damn that felt nice to quickly floss let me tell you lol! Then they changed my wire and gave me some more wax! I have another appointment in 6 weeks and Im hopefully going to get my 3 springs off next appointment. Right now they are making space to pull my teeth forward and into into the right positions. I hate the springs, they make everything look more bulky then they actually are and the one on the top is ugly in pictures! My teeth hurt a little bit that day and I was a little tender but Im totally fine now.

Update on my braces...

Not much has changed but Ive figured out some short cuts today! Re-cap: I can eat mostly all the foods I used to without any pressure or pain. I still cant 100 percent bite into things with my front teeth. Anything that you have to bite and kind of pull with your front teeth is still semi-difficult. A bracket on my bottom tooth developed a sharp edge and my lip keeps catching on it and that hasnt happend at all until now so I was absolutely forced this time to make the wax work because the cut in my mouth was affecting my speech. I knew you had to make the tooth dry to adhere the wax to your tooth but for some reason mine never worked. But this time, I used a way smaller portion of wax and just stuck in on there and smoothed it out and it stuck! And it feels sooo much better. Can believe I went that long without the wax! I also tried and fiddled around with my rubber bands again and got it down pat! I figured out some tricks to get them on. My ortho had said I needed to wear my elastics almost  24/7 for the most part of my treatment but when I went to my first appointment (4 days after I got my braces on) she told me to hold off on the rubberbands. She never said an actual day to start them so now that I know how to put them on and now that Im not in any pain I guess Ill just start wearing them. Im gonna wear them at night and when Im at home for now until my ortho gives me the ok to wear them all day. Im gonna hold off on wearing them for work and school just to avoid pain and discomfort. My next appt is Feb 17 and I think she might be changing the bars on my bottom teeth back to springs. Will keep you updated. Also, if you run out of something the orthodontist gives you, Wal Mart has pretty much everything you need. I will be doing a video on how to apply the wax and rubberbands as well as, how to brush and floss. Havent seen much movement in my teeth and no pain means not much is moving around. All the springs and bars are skipping over certain teeth therefore they arent going to be moving until my wire is hooked up to them. Its a good thing cause my ortho is slowly easing me into things :)

Nailpolish Of The Day: Essie LUXE EFFECTS: Set In Stones

"Set in stones" over top one coat of Sally Hansen Salon Manicure "Crinoline"
*Check out my nailpolish collection post below for a swatch*

Essie: LUXE EFFECTS - "Set In Stones"
A very beautiful nailpolish with a clear jelly base and hexigonal/chunky glitters of all assorted sizes. It layers nicely and two coats should be good enough in most cases either ontop of an actual color or on your bare nail. I find that it doesnt feel thick or griddy either even after 2-3 coats which is unlike any other glitter Ive tried before. Ive seen many different silver glitters in my day but this tops them by far. Essie is sold in most drugstores for 7-12$ (Canadian). These Luxe Effects are limited edition and should be in stands throughout the store and should be easy to find. They have about 10 different colours and 5 different effects with this collection so dont miss out and pick one up!

MAYBELLINE EYE STUDIO COLOR TATTOO 24HR CREAM GEL SHADOW REVIEW/SWATCHES

Left: Audacious asphalt ------- Right: Bad To The Bronze

REVIEW:
Where to find them?
Any drugstore/grocery store or wherever Maybelline is sold. You can try online as well
How much are they?
Depends where you go. Wal-mart is probably the cheapest and for all my Canadians, Shoppers Drugmart is going to be the most expensive...but they are having a sale right now (Jan 28/12) they are $5.99 each and thats a dollar cheaper then Wal-Mart was.

First off, talking about the packaging...I love the basic and sleek look to this product. I love how its a thick sterdy re-usable jar that displays the color and names very clearly. You get a lot of product and its easy to get every last drop. I believe they have 9 different colors out. Most Ive seen are shimmery or have chunky glitter in it and there was only one shade that was matte. There is a good balance between  neutrals and brights but I wish there was more matte shades and more skin tone shades to choose from. I dont know if they are coming out with more colors. The pigmentation is excellent in this product and when applying, what you see in the jar is what you get on your eyes. As far as the claim to last 24 hours, I believe that to be true. I swatched a few in the store and washed my hands with hot water and soap multiple times and it did not budge. As far as my eyes, like I said, amazing pigmentation...you get the exact color on your lid and it gives a gracious amount of time to apply and blend perfectly before drying completely and becoming crease proof. (1-2 minutes to fully dry) Once dry, you can apply shadows over it or leave it by itself. Either way, they do not crease in any way, shape or form and they do not move until you decide to take it off. It does not fade either. I find using shadows overtop intensify the color and almost make my shadows last longer and they do not budge either. As far as removing it, makeup remover or a makeup wipe and slight scrubbing will get it off just fine.

Verdict:
10/10

For being so widely available and such a great price with an awesome shade selection for everyone, this product blows my mind! Ive never used anything like it and it even blows my MAC paintpots out of the water. Im planning to get one or two more because they are going to be a great product to throw on my lids for the Summer time!

Definitely go pick one up and try it for yourselves. You wont regret it!

7th Day Braces...

Not much to update on today. Things are getting really easy and normal feeling. Chewing and eating gets easier every day and Im slowly discovering what I can and cannot eat. I still cant bite into things with my front teeth (cheeseburgers and things like that.) I still have to break things up but I can tell the pressure in my jaw to bite on food is getting a little stronger. Canker sores are getting more apparent on the brackets with hooks on them. On the plus side, I think Im losing weight! From not snacking so much which is a good thing but I only mostly only stick to foods I know are comfortable to eat which is usually pasta and potatoes...bad bad bad! I found myself forgetting I had braces for long periods of time today. Usually Im constantly playing with them (which is why I think my teeth kept feeling really dirty...probably from running my tongue along them so often) I chewed gum for the first time today and it didnt get stuck everywhere so Im very happy I can chew gum because Id way rather have gum than mints! I wont be updating daily anymore because things are getting quite repeatative so I will update a 1-2 times a week for the couple weeks then I will update on any changes or requests you guys have. Like I said, I will be taking a picture every Sunday until they are off and will do a blogpost at the end of each month. I wanted to make sure I had all the issues that occur within the first week and then make sure I let you guys know how it goes for the first month which is the worst part of it all. I wont be neglecting my blog so stay tuned :)

6th Day Braces...

The sores on the insides of my cheeks and slightly on my tongue are becoming more and more apparent now that I can chew and eat a bit more. My bottom and canine tooth arent nearly as sore and since my ortho changed the springs on the bottom teeth to bars, my teeth arent moving so fast if not at all. Eating and chewing is still pissing me off more then ever I just feel like eating is such a hastle because stuff gets caught between everything and then I cut my tongue trying to clean it. I can chew a lot better but still cant put full pressure on my back teeth yet. The blue stoppers on my molars are making it way more difficult to chew an d eat. I dont feel like eating even satisfies me or is enjoyable at all right now and I think thats because I dont feel like I have the sensation of chewing my food it just kinda gets mashed up between all the crap in my teeth and swallowed then I spend 10 mins cleaning out my braces. Ive also been feeling like my braces on top get really dry and fuzzy feeling kind of like when your teeth have plaque on them and they feel gross. This happens even when I brush them. I dont know if its a sensation from the inside of my lips beginning to change or what but it feels quite gross and annoying. Brushing and flossing is super easy and fast for me now though and Im very used to it. I brush floss and mouthwash twice a day morning and night. I went to work for the first time with my braces today and I feel like noone notices them which makes me feel better! My boyfriend had them a few years ago so if I ever have questions I turn to him and its nice to talk to someone about it :)
